What kind of nightclubs are there

A nightclub is a place where temporary communities are formed where people can act out fantasies, pretend to be someone they are not and for a certain period of time essentially escape their everyday lives. People therefore view the clubbing experience as a method of enjoying themselves in a form which is separate to the rest of their lives and this is another reason for why people go to nightclubs.

Celebrating and partying with friends is also a very powerful cause of enjoyment and why people go to nightclubs. This is due to the release of oxytocin love hormone which is produced when one takes part in bonding activities such as dancing with a group of friends. This oxytocin reduces fear and anxiety leading to feelings of contentment and peace. It is therefore no surprise that people may enjoy going to nightclubs purely given the production of this hormone which comes about as a result of the social bonding that occurs so naturally in such environments.

It comes as no surprise that successful establishments are well informed on the reasons behind why people go to nightclubs and play on these reasons in order to increase their revenue. This can be seen through dancefloor arrangements, alcohol sales etc. This is particularly seen at exclusive theme clubs through the skilful creation of what could be seen by those in an inebriated state as an alternate reality. For example Cirque le Soir creates an atmosphere so full of unusual things and creatures that it becomes actually difficult to remember you are still in central London.

A further fact that goblins, clowns and so on present in Cirque increase the levels of fear in customers which leads to increased alcohol consumption. Yet more escapism can be practiced at Mahiki with the Tiki decor providing a welcome tropical escape from the sometimes dreary English settings. For this reason such clubs maintain popularity as they do best in attracting those who are tired of their day-to-day lives. There is also a similar explanation behind why music is so important in popular clubs and another reason why people go to nightclubs.

As good music leads to increased dancing which promotes both oxytocin release and lekking behaviour. This detail is therefore crucial to creating a prosperous nightclub.

With its minimal white-tiled decor and powerful sound system, the experimental part-gallery-part-nightclub makes impressive use of its modest space. In summer, the party is upstairs and outside on the deck. Auslage keeps things simple: cheap door price, decent drinks, a meaty system, room for people and consistent quality lineups. It has just opened a second floor so now there is one room for house and another for techno.

I have been a Defected Records resident at Air for two years. We have hosted some special parties but the ones that stand out are during Amsterdam Dance Event. It has a perfect location just off Rembrandt Square and boasts a Void sound system that hits you nicely from all corners of the dancefloor.

Each of its three room feels like you are walking into a different club. But above the club is a coffee shop that stays open in the evening so you can pop in for a coffee on your way in. The club is down in the basement and stretches beneath a couple of buildings: it holds about people.

I love clubs with low ceilings: it really helps to create an intense atmosphere. Kaffibarinn is like our second home. It has everything you need: warm and cosy during the week then weird and crazy on the weekends, where everyone crams into the tiny space to dance the night away and invariably spill drinks over everyone.

Our favourite night is Wednesdays, when it has cheap wine and free delicious cheese. The place is really cool because it has different rooms with their own ambiences: you begin next to the entrance with a room with tables and sofas where you can have very good cocktails chilling with your friends. This is not common in Paris, it means you can have a break without loud music and have a real conversation.

The last room, upstairs on the first floor, looks like a living room of a small house, with wood everywhere, and old arcade video games. This place has the same concept as Le Badaboum, so you have both concerts and DJ sets, but a bit more electro. With urban decoration and graffs on the walls, you really find the underground feeling in this place. We have good memories there because the energy is really great: people are open to new things and happy to be here.

People are cool, the drinks are a bit expensive, but we recommend this club for all art lovers. From the outside, Concrete is a frighteningly huge boat in the 12th arrondissement with a top terrace where people chill out, have drinks and smoke cigarettes. But once you walk into the boat, you step into a techno-rave den.

It started off as an after-hours party running from Sunday to Monday, but became so popular that it has taken over entire weekends. House rules include, no pictures, no selfies, no filming, only good vibes. Sunday mornings see a scattered crowd of zombies coming to the end of their rave-marathon, but by 6pm new blood fills up the boat again and a new party begins. Cross Club is amazing, unique and rather strange.

The main room and the beautiful wall light behind the DJ booth make the club even more fantastic. The sound is great, the audience actually know how to dance and the events are all quality.

Subway: 4, 5, 6 to 59th St. Bar , E. Broadway, Essex St. Regular shows include Latin music every Thursday, and Underground every second Sunday. Hours: Sun. Subway: F to E. Le Bar Bat , West 57th St. Ages 21 and older. Club hours: pm - 4am. Bowery Ballroom , 6 Delancey St.

A cool mid-sized venue for Electronica, Alternative and Indie-rock. Downstairs opens at 7pm, upstairs opens at 8pm with shows starting at or 10pm. Age limit varies 16 - 21 depending on the show. Blondie and the Talking Heads got their starts here. CB's as it's affectionately called now hosts many different kinds of music, but it's still true to its punk roots. Shows nightly at 8pm. Ages 16 and over to get in, 21 to drink obviously. Chaos , E.
